The Modern Pop Corn Maker
Not much has changed over the years for the popcorn
machine.
The Pop Corn Maker (also called popcorn
machines or hot air poppers) has been around for quite
some time now. Pop Corn Makers were mostly found in movie
theatres and at fairs and carnivals but it took a while before
the electric version started showing up in homes.
In the 1970's the Hot Air Popper made it's debut for home
use and was a fast way to make popcorn that actually tasted
pretty good. Although the traditional way of popping popcorn
was still using the stove top (with oil), hot air poppers
definitely made it a convenient and healthy way to have your
favorite treat. The hot air pop corn maker was advertised as
the healthiest way to make popcorn as only 5% of the calories
came from fat. This fact helped propel the hot air popper as
one of the most popular small appliances of the late 70's and
80's as the traditional oil popped popcorn was a much more
fatty way to make the treat with 45-50% of it's calories from
fat.
Then in the 1980's a new method hit the market. Microwaves
were springing up in every home and soon enough Microwaveable
popcorn was taking over the traditional ways of popping corn.
The draw was that it was easy, affordable and quick to make but
the high amount of fat content soon had manufacturers changing
their ways. Soon enough there were all types on the market
including low fat, lightly salted and low butter which helped
sustain the microwave popcorn market to this very day.
The modern pop
corn machine has not changed much over the years.
Outside of different styles, colors and sizes, most popcorn
machines still use either oil or hot air to pop the kernels.
Prices though have changed dramatically depending on your
needs. You can buy a basic hot air popper online for about
$20-25 and you can also buy a top notch oil based popcorn
machine that you would see at move theatres for thousands of
dollars. The most expensive pop corn maker on Amazon.com is
currently the GOLD MEDAL Twin Grand 32 Popcorn Machine. It has
two 32oz kettles, a 60" or 72" cabinet, and weighs almost
700lbs! The price? A cool $10,995.00!
It's no secret that freshly popped popcorn is the way to go
so no matter what your budget you're sure to find an option for
your family. Whether it's an inexpensive hot air popper, a bag
of microwave buttered popcorn or a big expensive commercial pop
corn maker, you can have the best popcorn right in your own
home anytime you want.
